Valorant Jett Knife

A client wanted a prop from Valorant for their cosplay: the knife carried by the character Jett. We took it from a game reference to a print-ready CAD model, working through three questions first: how much detail to keep, what dimensions it needed, and how it would be produced.

Asset Details

The client wanted the knife to look like the one from the game without the sharpness or the detailed carvings on the hilt since they will later cover them with leather.

Dimensions

The client wanted the length of the whole prop to be about 200mm in length. Which we then used to scale the proportions accordingly so it would still be comfortable to hold in the hand.

Type of Production

For the manufacturing process we suggested to the client that the pieces would be SLA printed either in 3 parts (Handle, finger ring, blade) or the whole blade would be printed in one piece at an angle. With the latter the issue being the size of the printable area.

The client decided on SLA printing the whole knife in one piece.

CAD Modeling

We modelled the knife in CAD from in-game reference, translating the Jett blade's stylised shape into a clean, watertight solid built for printing. At the client's request we softened the edges that would be sharp in-game and left off the fine carvings on the hilt, since that area would be wrapped in leather later. The whole prop was scaled to around 200 mm and proportioned to sit comfortably in the hand, then prepared as a single, print-ready piece.

The challenge

A game model and a physical prop are not the same thing: the in-game knife exists only as a surface built to look right on screen, not as a solid object that can be held or printed. Our task was to keep the silhouette recognisable to anyone who knows the game while making it safe and practical to carry, softening the edges, simplifying the hilt for its leather wrap, and sizing it to the hand rather than to the screen. It also had to print cleanly as a single SLA piece, which meant a fully closed, watertight solid with wall thicknesses and detail the process could actually hold.

Services used

  • Design for 3D printing
  • Prop safety and handling adjustments
  • SLA printing

Deliverables

  • Print-ready single-piece CAD model
  • SLA-printed Jett knife prop
  • Model prepared for later leather finishing
Notable technical detail. The edges that read as sharp in-game were deliberately rounded off, so the finished prop looks the part but is safe to handle and ready for its leather wrap.
